An e-zine by, for, and about individuals with autism and/or related disorders
A New Adventure
Categories: Admin Post

Welcome to the web site for AutistiConnections, an e-zine that is by, for, and about individuals with autism and/or related disorders. Our contributors are all “on the spectrum;” no parents, friends, or professionals here (well, except for a very few places we’ll be explaining as they get up and running). Anyone is welcome to read the magazine, of course, and please do comment to blog posts – we love feedback!

Our content is creative in nature. We seek original works of fiction, poetry, visual art, and creative non-fiction (e.g., personal essays). The main requirement is that the creator of the work must have an Autism Spectrum Disorder, have a disorder that causes some similar problems such as ADHD, OCD, or sensory processing disorder, or strongly suspect that they qualify for such a diagnosis. The work in question must also be submitted with the approval of the creator. If parents or professionals would like to submit some work, we are happy to look it over; if such pieces are published, they will appear in a special section of the magazine.

The magazine itself was originally conceived in 2005, but it’s taken four years to get the domain and web site up and running (that’s what happens when the Editor-In-Chief has ADHD). We intend to publish our first issue in October 2009, as October is Autism Awareness Month in Canada (which is where the Editor-In-Chief resides). The magazine will be published in PDF format and sent via e-mail to all subscribers. The week following e-mail distribution, the issue will be posted to the web site for non-subscribers to read. It is free to subscribe.

Publication will be quarterly: October, January, April, and July.

Guidelines will be posted soon and linked in the sidebar. The theme for the first issue is Connecting, so start thinking now about what you might contribute to the magazine in its first run.

We are on the lookout for people who can volunteer their time to help with the layout, design, and editing of the magazine, so if you have talent you would like to share, please do not hesitate to contact us. Also, we will be holding a contest for banner illustrations. The guidelines will be published in the first issue (October 2009), and voting will be requested in the second issue (January 2010).

We are looking forward to making this adventure a fun and enlightening one. We hope you will join us!

Thank you all.
