Submission Guidelines

Articles submitted for AutistiConnections should be no more than 1,500 words in length.  This is the typical length for a feature article.  If a proposed piece must be longer than 1,500 words, please first query your idea to the editor.  Aside from this, queries are not required. Responses to submissions can be expected within the week, and feedback will be offered whenever possible.  Submission deadline for the October issue is September 1, 2010.

We welcome submissions of poetry and prose, both fiction and non-fiction.  When choosing a piece for submission, try to focus on the theme that is in current production.  This information can be found on the main page of the web site as well as at the page titled Current Topic & Writing Prompts.

While we are looking primarily for strong, positive pieces of writing that focus on the theme of the current issue, there is an insert that some contributors may be interested in writing for.

The Outlet is specifically for rants and venting.  Sarcasm and outrage reign supreme here.  We are looking primarily for well-written pieces that will “heap coals upon the heads of our enemies,” without being nice about it.

Visual Art – Photos, Sculpture, Painting, Computer/Digital Art, etc.

Visual art is highly prized.  Please submit a photo of 3D art or a file of computer art or photography in .jpg or .gif format.  Include a short explanation of the piece, why you created it, and why you are submitting it.

Bylines

When you submit a piece for publication, please include a short byline.  This should be a maximum of five (5) sentences long, and include information like your name, living situation, diagnosis/label, and/or a random fact or two about you.

Example of a byline:

Janna Hoskin lives in Calgary, Alberta, with two guinea pigs.  She was diagnosed with ADHD in February 2005.  Her favourite colour is green, and she plays the clarinet.

Payment

AutistiConnections does not currently pay its contributors for their submissions.  The magazine is run entirely by volunteers, and is distributed free of charge via the web site.
